I'm crazy busy yall..
I'm in school full time as well as working, sewing, mothering, er...wifeing, ignoring my blogging and I cut my foot and now I'm walking like a zombie in Thriller.
Anyway, here is a lazy garden pic post until I get some sleep..
So I made out pretty well this year, not bad for a beginner if I do say so myself. I had enough squash to feed a country and the tomatoes are dwindling, but hanging in there.
Lost my green beans early on to some type of powdery fungus, and my peas stand no chance against the rabbits, no matter what I spary/sprinkle around.. chard seems to grow no matter what you do to it and my fall planting of greens is coming in...I'm gonna go ahead and pat myself on the back now...yay me!
Unfortunately, my mighty sunflowers did not make it. All of my grand plans of harvesting sunflower seeds and doing who-knows-what with them were dashed to the ground in a storm.
My mighty sunflowers were too much for the garden shears, so I had to call in some manly men to cut them down..

Also? I love these flowers. Highly recommended for the "I don't know what I'm doing..but I'm gonna try to plant some shit and see what grows crowd" Pretty!
Also, also, thanks everyone for the daycare recommendations, I appreciate it!

And I'm back... (daycare recommendation?)
Hey yall,
So I was away on vacation (to New York! Yay!) and I was also in the running for a job and I didn't want them looking at all my rants so I went private for a while.
I post so infrequently now anyway, it's like I never left.

Anybody got a recommendation for a daycare in Urbana that's not the co-operative daycare?

Re-discovering cauliflower
I used to eat cauliflower all the time. Then I just stopped. I don't know why. Maybe I started thinking it was too expensive or that broccoli was just as good. Anyway, I was making a new recipe (roasted cauliflower, ziti, fire-roasted tomatoes, feta, breadcrumbs) and took a bite of the cauliflower before mixing it in with everything else. I swear I stopped in my tracks. It was soooo good. I ate half of it right there. So if you've noticed that all the cauliflower is missing from area grocery stores, it's because I bought it.
Roasted cauliflower
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
1 head cauliflower (chopped into florets)
Put them into a rimmed baking pan and drizzle with olive oil, toss to coat
season with salt and pepper
roast for 40 min, tossing halfway through. Test for softness with a fork and look for the charred edges (you want that to happen!) Take out and if you are me, don't even wait for them to cool before eating and burning your mouth. Enjoy.
